LMC Manna Research is currently recruiting healthy non-smoker volunteers who are 18 years of age or older to participate in a clinical research trial to investigate the real-world effectiveness and safety of a gargle solution for sore throat.
Sore throat, also known as acute pharyngitis, is an inflammation of the pharynx and the surrounding tissue. The common symptoms of sore throats are fever, throat pain, headache, dry mouth, and are often accompanied by swallowing difficulties. The standard treatment options for viral pharyngitis include non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), corticosteroids, anesthetic and disinfecting lozenges, pharyngeal washes, gargles, and sprays to treat the symptoms of the disease and reduce the intensity of the pain.
Up to 80% of sore throats are caused by viruses. However, currently, the standard of care by the physicians is the prescription of antibiotics, which can cause antibiotic resistance if used inappropriately. There remains a major unmet medical need to identify alternative anti-infective agents for the treatment of sore throats. This is why it is so important that research studies like this one are conducted. The use of the gargle solution has demonstrated its efficacy in clinical studies as an oral care measure to reduce the burden of potential pathogens and minimize the risk of infection.
You may be eligible to participate in this study if you are:
- Be 18-75 years old
- Be a non-smoker
- Have sore throat symptoms onset within 48 hours of enrolling in study
All study-related visits, tests, and drugs will be provided at no cost. In addition, if you qualify for the study, reimbursement for study-related travel may be provided.
This is not a complete list of requirements for participation. If you provide us with your contact information, we will promptly reach out to provide you with more information about this research study.
